About Andy


Andy is a highly effective and experienced City Councillor, providing strong leadership for Wellington. (Please see ‘achievements’ on this site.) His diverse career has included finance, company directorship, conservation, teaching and economic research.

Andy has chaired a range of major WCC committees – generally ones with significant decisions and the toughest challenges  – Strategy & Planning, Transport, Infrastructure, the Built & Natural Environment and Recreation. Currently he chairs the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and also leads Urban Development, Predator Free Wellington and the Karori Plan. Having previously served on the boards of several companies, he is a director of Wellington Airport and is President of the New Zealand Traffic Institute (TRAFINZ).

Andy is one of the founding trustees of Zealandia (Karori Sanctuary Trust) and was later appointed as a Guardian. Today he is a regular volunteer and provides strategic as well as practical advice when asked. Locally, he chairs the Karori Park Sports Club and the Karori Brooklyn Community Charitable Trust. Last year he established the Karori Kaitaki (Kaka) Environment Restoration Group.

He’s a vice president of Waterside Karori AFC, and after being a long time member of WKAFC now plays for Island Bay. He is a passionate Phoenix and Saints supporter. He is an active sportsman and a long time member of the Tararua Tramping Club .

Andy has lived in Wellington since childhood, initially living in Ngaio & Khandallah before moving to Karori. He is 57, married to Ann with 2 children.
